How to convert PNG to JPG

  1. 1To convert PNG to JPG, drag your PNG files onto the drop area or click it to browse. You can add several files at once.
  2. 2Check that JPEG is selected as the output format, and set the Quality. Around 80 gives a small file that looks the same to most eyes; raise it for more detail.
  3. 3Each file converts as soon as it is added. Compare the original and converted size, and open the comparison to check the result.
  4. 4Download a single JPG, or use Download All to save every converted file.

Changing PNG images to JPG

PNG and JPG are built for different jobs. PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which is ideal for logos, screenshots and graphics, but photographs saved as PNG are often huge. JPG, also written JPEG, uses lossy compression tuned for photos and can shrink a picture to a fraction of its PNG size. That is the main reason to change PNG to JPG: smaller files that upload, load and email faster.

The trade-offs are worth knowing. JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas of a PNG are filled with white during conversion. If you need a different background, place the image on it before converting. JPG also discards some detail each time it is saved, and sharp edges like text and thin lines can show faint blocky artefacts at low quality. For screenshots and logos with flat color, PNG is often both smaller and cleaner; use JPG for photographs and images with gradients.

The quality slider controls the balance. Lower values give a smaller file and more visible compression, and higher values keep more detail at a larger size. A value between 75 and 90 suits most uses. Converting happens in your browser using its built-in JPEG encoder, so results match what the browser itself would save, and the original PNG is never changed.

Your images are never uploaded. They are read and encoded on your device, which keeps screenshots and private pictures private, and there is no sign-up, watermark or limit on the number of files you convert.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert PNG to JPG?

+

Add your PNG files, keep JPEG as the output format, choose a quality and download the results.

What happens to transparent areas?

+

JPG cannot be transparent, so those areas are filled with white. Use the PNG or WebP output if you need to keep transparency.

Does converting PNG to JPG reduce quality?

+

A little, because JPG is lossy. At a quality of 80 to 90 the difference is hard to see on photos.

Is this PNG to JPG converter free?

+

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on files. You can convert PNG to JPG online here without uploading anything.

Are my images uploaded?

+

No. The conversion runs in your browser and your files never leave your device.
