How to rotate a PDF

  1. 1Drag a PDF onto the box or click it to choose one. Each page appears as a preview, so you can see which ones are sideways.
  2. 2To rotate PDF pages one at a time, use the left and right buttons under a page. The preview turns straight away, and a rotated page gets a highlighted border.
  3. 3To rotate a whole PDF, click All left, All right or All 180° in the toolbar. Reset puts every page back as it was.
  4. 4Click Save rotated PDF. The corrected copy downloads as the original name with -rotated added, and the original file is not changed.

How rotating a PDF works

Every page in a PDF has a rotation setting, a multiple of 90 degrees that tells viewers how to turn the page when they show it. To rotate a PDF file, this tool changes that setting rather than redrawing anything. That means the page content is not touched, text stays selectable and searchable, vector graphics stay sharp, and the file size barely changes.

The rotation you pick is added to whatever the page already has. If a scanner saved a page rotated 90 degrees, turning it right by 270 puts it back upright. The preview takes this into account, so what you see in the thumbnail is what you get when you open the saved file. You can rotate pages one by one when only a few are wrong, which is common with mixed scans of portrait and landscape sheets, or turn the whole document in one click.

Rotate PDF online here instead of in a viewer when you need the change to stay. Many viewers let you rotate the view, but the file opens sideways again next time or for the next person. Saving a rotated copy makes the new orientation permanent for every viewer and printer.

The PDF is processed locally in your browser and never uploaded, so it is safe for private documents. Password-protected PDFs can't be rotated here because the tool must be able to read the pages. Open such a file in a viewer, save or print it to a new PDF, and use that copy.

When people rotate PDFs

Fixing scans

Turn PDF pages that a scanner or phone app saved sideways or upside-down so they read the right way up.

Mixed orientation documents

Turn just the landscape sheets in a report so every page reads the right way up.

Making a permanent change

Save a copy that opens correctly on every device, unlike rotating the view in a viewer.

Preparing to print or share

Rotate pages before printing, merging or sending so the recipient doesn't have to tilt their head.

Frequently asked questions

How do I rotate a PDF and save it?

+

Add the file, turn the pages with the left and right buttons or the All buttons, then click Save rotated PDF. The corrected copy downloads to your device.

Can I rotate only some pages?

+

Yes. Each page has its own rotate buttons. Pages you don't touch stay as they are.

Does rotating lower the quality?

+

No. Only the page's rotation setting changes, so text and images are untouched and the file size stays about the same.

Can I flip a PDF upside down?

+

Yes. Use the All 180° button, or turn individual pages twice, to flip pages upside down.

Can I rotate PDF free of charge?

+

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no page limit.

Is the PDF uploaded?

+

No. The rotation is done in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
