How to split a PDF

  1. 1Drag a PDF onto the PDF file box or click it to choose one. Its pages appear as previews on the right.
  2. 2Choose how to split. Extract pages makes one PDF from the pages you pick. Split by ranges makes a separate PDF for each range you type. Every N pages cuts the file into equal parts.
  3. 3To extract pages from PDF documents, click the previews or type numbers such as 1-3, 5, 8-. The Odd, Even, All and None buttons help with long documents.
  4. 4Click the Split button. A single result downloads as a PDF; several results download together as a ZIP, with files numbered in order.

Three ways to split a PDF

Splitting a PDF means making new files from some of the pages of an existing one, and that is all it takes to split PDF pages without desktop software. The tool copies the pages you choose, with the fonts and images they use, into new documents. Nothing is converted to pictures, so text stays selectable and the quality is exactly that of the original.

Extract pages is for taking part of a document, such as the three pages of a contract you need to send. Select the pages by clicking their previews or by typing a list; the box and the previews stay in sync. The pages come out in the order you write them, so 3, 1-2 puts page 3 first. Split by ranges is how you separate PDF pages into several files at once: type 1-3, 4-6, 7- and you get three PDFs, each named with its page numbers. Every N pages cuts a long file into chunks of a size you choose, and every 1 page gives you one file per page.

Multiple results are bundled into a ZIP so you get one download instead of many. File names are padded with numbers, so they sort in reading order in any folder. Everything happens in your browser: the PDF is read locally, so confidential documents are safe to use, and there is no page or size limit beyond your device's memory.

Password-protected PDFs can't be split here because the tool must read their pages. If your file asks for a password, open it in a PDF viewer, save or print it to a new PDF, and add that copy instead.

When people split PDFs

Sending only what's needed

Cut PDF pages down to the few that matter, such as a signature page or a single invoice from a statement.

Breaking up long documents

Split a book, manual or scan into chapters with ranges like 1-12, 13-30, 31-.

One file per page

Separate PDF pages into individual files, for example payslips or certificates that must go to different people.

Meeting upload limits

Cut a large PDF into equal parts so each piece fits a portal's file-size limit.

Frequently asked questions

How do I extract pages from a PDF?

+

Add the PDF, keep Extract pages selected, then click the pages you want or type them, for example 2-4, 9. Press the button to download a new PDF with just those pages.

How to split PDF into single pages?

+

Yes. Choose Every N pages and set 1. You get one PDF per page in a ZIP.

Does splitting change the quality?

+

No. Pages are copied as they are, so text stays selectable and images are unchanged.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

Not directly. Open it in a viewer with the password, save or print it to a new PDF, then use that copy.

Is this PDF splitter free online, and is my PDF uploaded?

+

It is free and needs no sign-up. The file is never uploaded: it is processed in your browser and never leaves your device.
