How to convert HEIC to JPG

  1. 1To convert HEIC to JPG, drag your photos onto the HEIC photos box, or click it and choose files. You can add a single file or a whole folder of iPhone photos at once.
  2. 2Leave the Output format on JPG, or switch to PNG if you want lossless images. For JPG, set the Quality: 90% is a good balance of size and detail.
  3. 3Each photo converts as soon as it lands, and a preview card shows its new size. Large photos take a few seconds each, and several are converted at the same time.
  4. 4Click the file name on a card to download that HEIC file as a JPG, or press Download all (ZIP) to get every converted photo in one archive.

What HEIC is and why photos need converting

HEIC, also called HEIF, is the image format iPhones and iPads have used for photos since iOS 11. It stores the same picture as a JPEG in roughly half the space, which is why your phone prefers it. The catch is compatibility: many websites, older versions of Windows, photo printing services and email or form uploads still only accept JPG. That is why people search for a HEIC converter, and why a HEIC file to JPG conversion is one of the most common tasks after taking photos on an iPhone.

This tool decodes each HEIC file with libheif, an open-source library compiled to WebAssembly, then saves the pixels as a JPG or PNG using your browser's own encoder. The decoder is only downloaded when you add your first photo, and it runs in a background worker so the page stays responsive while a large photo is processed. Rotation is handled for you, so a portrait iPhone photo converts to an upright JPG rather than one lying on its side. Files that contain more than one image, such as some burst and export formats, can be converted as separate pictures.

Choose JPG for the smallest files and the widest support; a quality of 90% looks the same as the original to most eyes. Choose PNG when you need lossless output or when the HEIC image has transparency, since JPG fills transparent areas with white. The conversion starts again from the original photo, so changing the format or quality never stacks one lossy step on another. Photos are saved with new file names that keep the original name, such as IMG_0042.jpg.

Everything happens on your device. The HEIC files are read by your browser and never sent to a server, which matters for family photos and anything private. Camera details stored in the file, including the location, date and device, are not copied into the new image. There is no limit on how many photos you can convert, no watermark and no account.

When people convert iPhone photos to JPG

Uploading to sites that reject HEIC

Job portals, marketplaces, insurance claims and government forms often accept only JPG or PNG. Convert the photo first and upload the result.

Opening photos on Windows

Convert a folder of iPhone photos to JPG so they open in any viewer, editor or slideshow without installing extra codecs.

Sending photos to anyone

Share pictures with people on any phone or computer by turning an iPhone photo to JPG, with no app needed on the other end.

Printing and editing

Many print shops and older editors read JPG but not HEIC. A converted copy keeps your original untouched.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert HEIC to JPG?

+

Drop the HEIC photos onto the converter, keep JPG selected and download each result or the whole batch as a ZIP.

Is this HEIC to JPG converter free?

+

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of photos.

Are my iPhone photos uploaded anywhere?

+

No. The photos are decoded and converted inside your browser and never leave your device.

Will portrait photos come out the right way up?

+

Yes. The rotation stored in the HEIC file is applied, so portrait photos convert upright.

Can I convert HEIC to JPG on Windows or Android?

+

Yes. It works in any current browser on Windows, Mac, Linux and Android, so you do not need an iPhone or special software.

What is the difference between HEIC and HEIF?

+

HEIF is the container standard and HEIC is the version Apple uses with HEVC compression. The converter reads both, so a HEIF to JPG conversion works the same way, including for files named .heif.

Is HEIC to JPEG the same as HEIC to JPG?

+

Yes. JPG and JPEG are the same format. The converter saves .jpg files, which every program reads as a JPEG.
